Treelines is an ongoing series that imagines the land before it was clear cut. Small crocheted trees are placed in locations as stand-ins for the trees that would have grown in the area. The trees also act as a kind of proxy for me and my relationship to the land and changes depending on the location—settler on indigenous land, the homeland of my family or somewhere that is entirely new to me. The trees are meant to be whimsical, and a bit sad. The plastic trees also have another register—they remain alien looking, intentionally toxic or a little ghostly. To date this has been undertaken in the interior of British Columbia, the Outer Hebrides in Scotland and in Greece.
